Days of Half Staff Observance
Days that your flag should always be flown half staff:
May 15th - Peace Officers Memorial Day (sunrise until sunset)
Last Monday in May - Memorial Day (sunrise until NOON)
July 27th - Korean War Veterans Armistice Day (sunrise until sunset)
(Changes yearly) - National Firefighters Memorial Day (sunrise until sunset)
September 11th - Patriot Day (sunrise until sunset)
December 7th - Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day (sunrise to sunset)
These dates represent key national observances, but flags may also be flown at half-staff for other occasions as proclaimed by local or national authorities.
Half-Staff Guidelines:
Flying your flag at half-staff shows respect and honors solemn occasions.
For flagpoles: First raise the flag briskly to the top, then slowly lower it to the halfway point.
For off-the-house flags: A half-staff mourning ribbon is an acceptable substitute for symbolizing mourning on poles that cannot lower a flag to half-staff.
